Day 6: St. Mary's Cathedral Trincomalee & Journey to Hill Country
Morning: St. Mary's Cathedral, Trincomalee
Travel to Trincomalee (approx. 4 hours) to visit St. Mary's Cathedral, a beautiful church located in this historic port city. The cathedral serves as the center of Catholic faith in the Eastern Province's northern region. Built with colonial architectural influences, the church features lovely stained glass windows and a peaceful atmosphere. The cathedral has served the spiritual needs of Trincomalee's Catholic community for generations and survived the challenges of war and natural disasters.

Afternoon: Journey to Batticaloa
Continue your journey south along the eastern coast to Batticaloa (approx. 3-4 hours). Enjoy scenic views of lagoons, paddy fields, and coastal villages along the way. Arrive in Batticaloa and check into your hotel.
Day 7: Ancient Churches of Batticaloa
Morning: Church of Our Lady of Presentation (Thandavanveli)
Visit the Church of Our Lady of Presentation in Thandavanveli, the oldest recorded church in the Batticaloa district, dating to 1624. This church holds an extraordinary place in Sri Lankan Christian history. See the historic "Vammi" tree where St. Joseph Vaz, the great missionary known as the "Apostle of Sri Lanka," was tied and beaten by Dutch authorities for secretly celebrating Mass. The statue of Mary at this church still bears burn marks from when the church was set on fire during the Dutch persecution. The current structure, rebuilt after the original was destroyed, preserves these sacred relics. This church represents the triumph of faith over persecution and the heroic ministry of St. Joseph Vaz.
Afternoon: Dutch Reformed Church & St. Mary's Cathedral, Batticaloa
Visit the Dutch Reformed Church near Batticaloa Fort, a historic colonial-era church built in the 17th century. This well-preserved church features characteristic Dutch architecture with thick walls, high ceilings, and a bell gable. The churchyard contains graves of Dutch colonial officials. Then explore St. Mary's Cathedral, the center of Catholic faith in the Eastern Province. This beautiful cathedral, with its twin towers and spacious interior, serves as the seat of the Bishop of Batticaloa. Evening: Batticaloa Lagoon
Experience the famous "singing fish" of Batticaloa - mysterious musical sounds heard from the lagoon at night. This unique natural phenomenon, caused by certain fish species making vocalizations during the full moon period, has fascinated visitors for centuries. Take a boat ride to listen to this mysterious sound that locals believe is a blessing on the waters.
Day 8: Journey to Hill Country - Nuwara Eliya & Holy Trinity Church
Morning: Depart Batticaloa
Begin your journey to the Central Highlands (approx. 6-7 hours). Enjoy the changing landscapes as you travel from the eastern coastal plains through lush vegetation up into the cool hill country. Witness waterfalls, tea plantations, and scenic mountain views along the way.

Day 9: Christ Church Warleigh & St. Anthony's Bandarawela

Visit Christ Church Warleigh in Dickoya, a picturesque Anglican church in the heart of tea country. Built in 1878 for British tea planters, this charming stone church features beautiful stained-glass windows imported from England and a peaceful churchyard overlooking rolling tea plantations. Day 10: Adam's Peak - Sacred Mountain Pilgrimage
Morning: Travel to Hatton/Dalhousie
Morning journey to the base town for Adam's Peak (approx. 2-3 hours). Enjoy scenic views of tea plantations and misty mountains along the way. Arrive at Dalhousie and check into your hotel. Rest and prepare for the sacred night climb.

Night: Ascent of Adam's Peak (Sri Pada)
Begin the sacred climb around 2:00 AM to reach the summit for sunrise. The 5,200-step climb is illuminated by lights along the path, creating a river of light winding up the mountain. For Christians, this is the traditional site where Adam first set foot on earth after being cast out of Eden, grieving for 1,000 years on this peak. The mountain is sacred to four major religions: Christians and Muslims believe it is Adam's footprint, Buddhists say it is Buddha's, and Hindus say it is Shiva's. The climb takes 3-5 hours depending on fitness level, with rest stops and tea shops along the way. The pilgrimage season from December to May sees thousands making this spiritual journey.
Sunrise: Summit Experience
Reach the summit for the breathtaking sunrise. View the sacred footprint (Sri Pada) encased in a shrine at the summit. Offer prayers and receive a blessing at this holy site. Morning (Day 11): Descent & Rest

Day 11: Journey to Galle - Dutch Reformed Church & St. Mary's Cathedral
Morning: Depart Hatton for Galle
Depart from the hill country and travel south to the historic coastal city of Galle (approx. 6-7 hours). Witness the dramatic change in landscape from misty mountains to tropical coastal plains. Enjoy scenic views along the way.

Arrive in Galle and visit the Dutch Reformed Church inside the historic Galle Fort. Built in 1754, this is one of the oldest Protestant churches still in use in Sri Lanka. Day 12: St. John's Kalutara & Journey to Negombo Churches

Travel north to Kalutara (approx. 1.5 hours) to visit St. John's Church, a historic Anglican church built in the early 19th century. This beautiful church features classic colonial architecture with a lovely spire and peaceful churchyard. The church has served the spiritual needs of Kalutara's Christian community for generations and remains an active place of worship.
